We will be set up at Small Press table P-09 - Stop by and say hello!  I've got two new books debuting: Hard-Bullied Comics Volume 2: Dead Zep (the first ever musical graphic novel featuring a FULL 12-song original soundtrack tying directly to the story) and The Villain Original Graphic Novel.  Can't wait to see you all there!

HELP KICKSTART THE VILLAIN ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL

*PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINK ABOVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR CAUSE.

"It's a book asking, 'What if super powers go to the wrong guy?' Steve Earnhart, the man behind the noir-tastic HARD-BULLIED COMICS book is responsible for this fun premise and he doesn’t waste any time diving into the action. This first issue is definitely worth checking out. Fun characters, cool powers, and nice indie art; THE VILLAIN takes super hero convention and flips it on its @$$." - Ambush Bug, Ain't it Cool News.

"The Villain" is a 100 page full color graphic novel by co-creator, writer, and letterer Steve Earnhart, co-creator and artist Pat Loika, colorists John and Bernadette Joseco, with a logo by Chris Maze. The Villain graphic novel will debut at San Diego Comic-Con International 2010.

All funding received from generous Kickstarter contributors will be put towards printing, shipping, and promotion, with the lion's share going towards printing. We released the now-sold-out debut issue of THE VILLAIN at San Diego Comic-Con International 2009 to fantastic feedback, and our original plan was to release three more single issues to complete the debut arc, then follow up with a graphic novel collecting them in a single edition. However, as any independent publisher can attest: printing a short run of full color, standard 22-page comics is simply not cost-effective. In fact, one could say it's cost-prohibitive. So in order to capitalize on our momentum and keep costs down as low as they can be we hit the accelerator and knocked out the entire arc - 70 more pages (total page count around 100). We're absolutely thrilled with the results and are really looking to make a splash at San Diego CCI this July, but the bottom line is this:

To do it right, we need your help.

We are offering some wonderful donor incentives, including signed copies of the The Villain graphic novel when it's back from press, donor-selected original art pages from the book (11 x 17 - ideal for framing), original and finalized character design pages, the chance to order a full color custom sketch from villainous artist Pat Loika (see LOIKAMANIA for a glimpse at his fantastic work), downloadable sketchbook with character designs and layouts, and much, much more. Every contributor's name will appear on a MOST WANTED list in the final published book itself as well, with notoriety based on donation level. SCOURGE OF HUMANITY and INTERGALACTIC DESPOT-level contributors will even have the option of having their photos printed, mugshot-style on the list. Rest assured, your villainy will be immortalized in print.

West Beverly Hills High School football star, bully, and all-around creep Nick Nason thought he had it all going into senior year; scholarship offers were coming in, the hottest chicks were lining up, and he was feared and respected by all the right people. It's always something we didn't even realize was missing that completes us, though, so when Nick wakes up after a particularly brutal night of partying and brawling to discover he somehow got super powers, he knows that his life has truly just begun. Will he change his ways and use these newfound gifts for the betterment of mankind?

Hell no.

He's gonna be baddest super villain who ever lived.

Both Pat and I thank you immensely for your support!

Steve!!!

How do you keep up with running a site AND all the other stuff you do? If you probably noticed, Independent Propaganda has gone by the wayside. I just didn't have the time it takes to do it. I WANT to, but couldn't find any time. How do I get it started again??

We just got another smashing reveiw from Ain't it Cool News, this time it's for Hard-Bullied Comics 5, 6, and 7, the first three chapters of "Dead Zep", our second story arc!  HUGE thanks to Ambush Bug for the kind words, and for being one of the most vocal supporters of independent comics!

HARD-BULLIED COMICS #5-7
I've been a fan of this series from the beginning. Tough detective stories set in a fantastic world. The heroes are as hard luck and noir as you'll ever find, but the cool thing about these stories is that there's a fantastical take on things, like people being turned into half-animals and dead rockers kept alive to please their fans, that makes these stories stand out. Each issue focuses on a different detective who is working on the same case from different angles. There's the charismatic Billy Blackburn, who is the most relatable of the crew. Knuckles leads with his fists and provides some brutal panels of action. And the snake-headed Jason King and the tiger headed December Leonard are not to be trusted. All four were in a military unit together years ago; two were transformed into man-beasts while two became hard nosed detectives. There's a mystery in there somewhere and it's good enough to keep my attention. Reading the first three issues of this four part arc all at once is torture, since now I have to wait to see what happens in the fourth part. I picked all of these books up at this year's SDCC. HARD-BULLIED COMICS have always been strong reads, but these last three issues rock even harder due to the superb art by Federico Dallocchio who has a style reminiscent of Jim Calafiore with heavy separation between lights and darks. Perfect art for a noir tale such as this. If you're a fan of mystery and hard nosed detective stories, this is the indie book for you.

THE VILLAIN #1
Goodbum Studios & Dial R Studios
There’s a scene in THE VILLAIN that sums up the entire book. A nerdy kid gets pushed down in the middle of school. It’s your typical scenario where a bully picks on someone smaller and weaker than him. But the narrative doesn’t follow the nerd as does every other comic you can think of. The book follows the bully and continues to tell the tale of a boy who was always pretty bad and how this boy grew up to be a super villain. It’s a book asking, “What if super powers go to the wrong guy?” Steve Earnhart, the man behind the noir-tastic HARD-BULLIED COMICS book is responsible for this fun premise and he doesn’t waste any time diving into the action. This first issue is definitely worth checking out. Fun characters, cool powers, and nice indie art; THE VILLAIN takes super hero convention and flips it on its @$$.

It thrills me to announce that the initial print run of The Villain #1 completely sold out just as SDCC 2009 was closing up!  I was planning to offer it here, but it seems that the demand outweighed the supply, so it looks like we're going to have to wait for a few developments to unfold before it becomes available again.  Be sure you stay tuned...

On behalf of both Pat Loika and myself, I want to give a HUGE thanks to everyone who came by the booth and bought The Villain #1!
